Biography:
32 years of practicing Podiatric Medicine in Spokane has taught Dr. Nicholas J. Tanner that patients have a right to understand their foot and ankle problems and to have an active say in the treatment of these conditions. Trained in both foot and ankle surgery from the removal of toenails to reconstruction of the foot, Dr. Tanner has assisted thousands of patients in returning to a more active lifestyle and in wearing shoes again comfortably. Diabetics have avoided unnecessary surgery and loss of limb, athletes have returned to competition early most of the time without surgery and children have avoided "growing pains" and future ugly foot conditions.

Dr. Tanner graduated Cum Laude from Brigham Young University in Zoology, finished 13th in his class from the California College of Podiatric Medicine and completed an extensive foot surgery residency in Bellflower, California in 1983. He has been President of the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association where he was voted Podiatrist of the Year by his peers and twice honored by the Washington State Podiatric Medical Assistants Association as Podiatrist of the Year. He currently serves as a Podiatric Sportsmedicine Consultant with the Medical Team at Gonzaga University now completing almost 30 years of Volunteer work. Dr. Tanner is part time employed by Group Heath Cooperative now finishing his 30th year. He is happily married of 37 years to his beautiful wife, Karlene, and has 5 successful children and 5 darling grandchildren. Biography:
I’m fortunate to have been trained in treating a multitude of foot conditions ranging from ingrown toenails to reconstructive bunion surgery to preventative diabetic foot care. My philosophy is to always choose the right treatment and to make a medical decision based on the best interests of my patients, without financial influence. I feel it important to always render conservative care first where possible. I’m very much affected and humbled by the trust that my patients and referring providers place in my services.

I have been active and athletic my whole life, which makes me understand the importance for my patients to want to be active and walk without pain. I very much enjoy running, swimming, dance, water-sports and travel. My husband and children act as my anchor, and I’m very fortunate to be able to have the bext of both worlds with work and family.

I joined the Family Foot Center directly out of my surgical residency in 2001. I was involved with the Sacred Heart Wound Care Clinic for 8 years, and am currently also working a day/week at the Welpinit Indian Health Clinic. I am board certified in foot surgery by the American Board of Podiatry Surgery and am a fellow of the Americn College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

It is a privilege to be involved in your care.
